Spanking children can lead to adult relationship violence when those children grow up, a new study published Tuesday in the Journal of Pediatrics suggested. Jeff Temple, a psychiatry professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and lead author, said the study found that out of 758 study participants ages 19 and 20, those who had experienced corporal punishment were more likely to have committed dating violence, CNN reported. “In all, 19 percent of participants reported physical dating violence perpetration and 68 percent reported experiencing corporal punishment as children,” the study said. “Analysis showed a significant positive association between corporal punishment and physical perpetration of dating violence…”
